Product Design – Senior Designer

PROJECT: 
o These candidates will be supporting a transmission design project GM is co-developing with Ford
o Also supporting a project with an electric drive motor system that won’t be released until years from now

TYPICAL DAY: 
o 75% of the candidate’s day will be working independently with the NX CAD software
o Of that 75%, 80% will be working within NX software building or modifying models
o Candidates will need to learn how to adapt to GM standards of how that gets done
o Editing other’s work leading up to creating their own models (either from scratch or from variations of other’s work).
o Working on engineering drawings, models, or assembly of models
o The additional 25% of a candidate’s typical day will be meeting and talking with others (i.e. attending meetings, or communicating with others through instant messenger, phone calls, emails, etc.)
o Understand how to manage keeping track of design characteristics, numbering systems, revision history, how to read an engineering change request or work order
o Candidates will receive assignments thorough a certain software and then reporting out when that item would be completed. From there candidates will initiate a work flow that is reviewed by peers and customers (engineers).
o Working on hydramatic Transmissions (gears, clutches, shafts, etc.) (ex: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydramatic)

MUST HAVE: 
o Familiarity with NX as the candidate’s preferred CAD tool (ex: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siemens_NX)
o 5-6 years of total industry experience, and 2 years of experience working with NX
o Catia, Pro E, or solidworks familiarity
o Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology (calculus or non-calculus based)
o Team Center is a CAD data management software (access and protect files from overriding), preferred
o Initiating a workflow review process
o Geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T)
o Willing and adaptable to learn as quickly as they can

ENVIRONMENT: 
o Very diverse group (a mix between very green and tenured staff)
o Selected candidates will be assigned a mentor within their first 60 days on assignment
o Working on a team of 90 individuals
